Volunteering Requirements

TAX PREPARER - For a volunteer with tax experience, the training requirements should be minor.  If the volunteer is able to pass an on-line test, the only instruction required is Tax Wise (IRS tax preparation software). Tax Wise training lasts approx. 6 to 8 hours depending upon the computer experience of the class attendees.

For a volunteer without tax experience , the training is more involved.  Full tax instruction will be provided during evening classes (3 evenings at 4 hours each).  The volunteer is required to pass the test and be trained on Tax Wise.

Training sessions are currently scheduled for mid December and mid January.  Check back for more details.

Volunteer Schedule -  Due to the more extensive training requirements for a volunteer without tax experience, a time commitment during the tax preparation season is recommended.  This commitment is 4 to 5 hours per week for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

If a volunteer is experienced with tax preparation and would simply go on-line and take the test, a letter of commitment is acceptable.

A volunteer may be asked to travel to various sites throughout Erie County; however, a schedule that requires the least amount of travel for all volunteers will try to be created.

GREETERS/INTAKE - Minimal training is required for this position.  Instruction will be provided by the Site Coordinator.

Volunteer Schedule - 4 to 5 hours per week for at least 4 to 6 weeks
